Why do melons sometimes taste and smell like nail varnish remover?

Is it just me but sometimes when you have a melon from a supermarket it smells of nail varnish remover and tastes a little of it too?

What causes this? Why do melons sometimes taste and smell like nail varnish remover?
Not sure but pear drops scent is added to some nail varnish remover so maybe its that. Why do melons sometimes taste and smell like nail varnish remover?
Perhaps you need treatment for your varnish remover tasting fetish! Lol.

No, seriously, surprisingly very ripe melons taste and smell like this because they have alot of acid in them called ketoacids. There is nothing wrong with them.

Incidentally, if you smell this on a diabetic person's breathe then they should be warned as it is an indication of this acid in their blood and is also an indication that the blood sugar levels are way too high. If left they could go into a diabetic coma and die. Some people with this are accused of having drunk too much alcohol. this is a dangerous assumption.
It's one of the natrually occurring chemicals from the ripening of the fruit - amyl acetate
Bug spray?

Buy your food somewhere less toxic.
Your nails have not fully dried!
