Your best bet is to always use a good quality basecoat, and also a good topcoat as well after you are finished with polishing your nails. Don't skimp on the quality of the basecoat. The cheap ones do no work as well. ALways buy top quality basecoats. Its pretty much the same thing for topcoat. But the good stuff. BTW, topcoat is different from clear nail polish. Use a topcoat instead. Avoid changing the polish too often because polish remover - even the non-acetone kind, has a drying effect on your nails. Try to limit use of polish remover to once a week or less.Whats the best way to make Nail Varnish last longer?
A clear top coat might do the trick. It would protect the colored varnish from chipping as quickly
Not the real answer to your question but biosculpture gel overlays last for 4 weeks and are good for your natural nails promoting them to grow. You can get it in clear, coloured or french, all of which can be painted over. In fact nail varnish sticks a lot better to gel overlays than a natural nail. It costs around £20 for the intial aplication then £15 for infills!
Here are some ways to make sure that your manicure stays perfect for as long as possible.

1 Step One

Make sure nails are clean and dry before applying polish by going over all nails with nail polish remover. Any oils or residue on nails makes it more difficult for polish to adhere to the nail.

2 Step Two

Push back cuticle skin with a wooden tool found at any pharmacy or beauty supply shop (often called “orange sticks”). Polish peels if it is applied on top of cuticles.

3 Step Three

Apply a base coat before applying your color polish. Base coats help polish adhere to the nail.

4 Step Four

Cover entire nail with a thin coat of color polish. Too much polish takes too long to dry and increases the risk of smudging the smooth finish.

5 Step Five

Allow the first coat of color polish to dry thoroughly before adding the second coat.

6 Step Six

Apply the top coat or “clear coat” to completely dried nails for an extra layer of strength and protection.

7 Step Seven

Protect your manicure by wearing gloves when engaging in physical activities that may potentially damage your manicure, such as gardening and washing the dishes.
You can also try to make sure that each coat of polish is done as thinly as possible. This allows each coat to dry fully. Sometimes when the coats of polish are too thick, they either don't dry fully, leaving dents or marks in the polish more easily, or it chips off in huge chunks.
