Joyce is right, I've had success using nail polish remover. Make sure that you test it on the inside of a seam allowance to make sure that it is colour fast and won't harm the fabric. However, on the other hand, the clothing is ruined with nail polish anyway...... Good Luck!
Add: Dry cleaners use solvents to clean clothes (hence dry-no water used) these include gasoline, kerosene and acetone. If you feel more comfortable, take it in, but you should be able to handle it yourselfHow do you get nail varnish out of clothes?
Try using acetone or nail varnish remover to dissolve the stain, beware of using it on acrylics it will damage the fibres. Use lots of white paper towels under the stain working from the back of the fabric with a cloth moisten with the solvent. Then wash on the normal setting. You may have to go to a proffessional cleaners to get the residue of the pigment out if the garment is dry clean only.
First of all, I would never apply acetone or any other chemical to ANY fabric without first consulting a professional dry cleaner. One time while polishing my toenails in bed (first mistake!), I accidentally tilted the bottle and some polish poured directly onto my mom's GOOD Ralph Lauren sheet! Mom took the sheet to the dry cleaner and he said since she had not applied anything to it that it would be easier to get out. Sometimes trying other stuff first does more harm than good. He got the polish out of her sheet and me off the hook!
The best thing is to put the item in a plastic bag in the freezer, then after a few hours it will pick off.
